Ireland settle on Staunton

uefa.com - FIFA World Cuphttp://www.uefa.com/Competitions/WorldCup [uefa.com - FIFA World Cup] Ireland's most-capped player having represented his country 102 times, Staunton - who has agreed a four-year contract in his first managerial role and leaves Walsall FC in the third tier of English football to take up the post - appeared in the World Cup finals in 1990, 1994 and 2002. He had been player-coach at Walsall since the start of the season at the end of a long career in which he played for Liverpool FC - being part of that club's last English championship-winning team of 1989/90 - and Aston Villa FC among others.
