[All the latest news, events and opinion surrounding World Cup 2006 in Germany] The G14 group of 18 of the wealthiest European football teams (no, we don’t know why it’s called G14 either) are again demanding a share of the World Cup profits. [World Cup Football 2006 - Germany - FIFA - World Cup Soccer Blog] The Battle over World Cup Bucks: That sound you just heard was lawyers around the world hyperventilating over the fees they are going to reap from the brewing battle between the mysteriously named G14 uber rich European club teams and the not so mysteriously corrupt uber fat cats at FIFA. On the same day that word came out that FIFA has struck a partnership deal with VISA starting in 2007 that is worth $262-$351 million (somewhere Sepp Blatter’s offshore bank account is smiling), Manchester United chief executive David Gill has come up with the idea that FIFA should share part of the profits from World Cups with clubs.

The world’s largest mobile phone company by revenue said it would continue to work with United, but that when the Champions League opportunity arose it was “too good to let go“.
[Msn.foxsports.com] FOX Sports - England- Gill denies G14 breakaway: The group of clubs, known as G14, includes United, Arsenal and Liverpool from the Barclays Premiership and a leaked report last week suggested they were involved in moves to set up their own European competition.
[Unitedrant.co.uk] :: united rant:: - fair and balanced football comment: The AIG deal will beat Chelsea's £50m contract with electronic giant Samsung, and eclipse a similar sized contract that Real Madrid have with Siemens Mobile. The deal will also beat Arsenal's longer 15 year £100m agreement with Emirates.
[Canniff.com] Maple Lions » Manchester United FC: Despite a lopsided final score, Wigan sits within an EPL spread between fifth and ninth places of only three points. A spot in the UEFA Cup next year is not out of question.
