Is being Scottish bad for your health?

http://modies.blogspot.com [Shuggy's Blogspot] Researchers at Edinburgh University revealed that an unknown "X-factor" - not linked to the usual suspects of poor diet, smoking, lack of exercise and poverty - appears to be responsible for those living in Scotland having a 50 per cent higher chance of getting the potentially fatal condition than people south of the Border."Interesting - although I'll reserve judgment: one piece of research I saw showed that people in Bearsden - a relatively prosperous Glasgow suburb - has health rates much the same as the South of England. In neighbouring Drumchapel - one of Glasgow's four peripheral council housing (I should say, housing association now) estates - one can expect to die 10 years earlier, on average.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

http://www.scottishchristian.com [Scottishchristian.com] Scottish Christian news monitor: March 1-15, 2004: Adam Dillon, minister of Knightswood St Margaret's Parish Church in Glasgow, said after the showing: "I don't think that any anti-Semitic claims are justified at all." But Ephraim Borowski, director of the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities, warned of an anti-Semitic backlash. The Right Reverend Idris Jones, Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Glasgow and Galloway, said: "I am glad that I have seen the film, and I think that as a devotional aid to people who already have a Christian faith, it might be quite helpful."

20six.co.uk[20six.co.uk] Joe Middleton's Scottish Republican Weblog: May 2005: The former leader of the SSP, Tommy Sheridan, sent the campaign the following message of support: “As a socialist I believe passionately in genuine democracy and the right of nations to self-determination. My party’s vision is of an independent socialist Scotland but we absolutely endorse and promote the right of citizens in Scotland to democratically decide now via a referendum if they wish an independent country.

[Phillsimpson.com] Trip: December 2002 Archives: At least in a bar I can pretend to have a decent Scottish accent and chat girls up with that (the scottish accent isn't quite as unique in Scotland though...) but when it comes to clubs I'm no good. Anyway, so I track bob down working at the bar, but he's pretty overwhelmed with all the demanding Glasgweigans, so I barely say hi before I opt to leave him alone.
