Seedings Set for WC2006
[The Soccer Weblog - "Your ultimate guide to soccer" - Seedings Set for WC2006] Brazil made in it at its usual top seeding based on performances in the past two World Cups as well as other internationals. England surprised at second, and the US missed out on a top seeding by one point behind Italy and Argentina.

[jameed.net] World Cup Seeding Confirmed: However, I see the seeding of the top groups fairly adequate given the teams' performances nowadays. For one, Brazil is a clear favorite and they came in 13 points ahead of England which came in second.
[Sgfsoccer.com] Springfield MO Soccer » Blog Archive » Germany 2006: If Fifa uses the same seeding system they used in the last two World Cups, the US will just miss out on getting a seed, while Mexico will get one. It doesn’t make sense since we qualified first, won our group, beat them overall on aggregate, beat them at the last World Cup, and are CONCACAF Champions.
[Bloxster.net] International Football Results 1872-present - 2006 World Cup ...: If the seeding ends up like that I'll definately buy you a beer or two if you're ever in the Cambridge area or when I'm back in Germany (if that's where you live...). However, I'm not sure if that would be fair to Mexico, as rather than being one of the top seeds, they would be drawn against one of the top seeds, and to me (even though I'm Dutch and my home country would benefit) I can't see it happening as that would seem very cruel on the Mexicans.

[Prague.tv] Czech Football Daily: According to CTK, because FIFA rules prevent a player appearing for more than two clubs in one season, the Czech international’s options are limited to extending his stay in Budejovice or returning to Sparta. [According to iDNES.cz, meanwhile, Poborsky definitely won’t be returning to Sparta - the current negotiations are to determine how much he must pay to buy out the rest of his contract.]
