USA still alive after 1-1 tie with Italy
[SRSoccer.com - Part of the Scores Report Blog Network] After looking like a second-rate squad in their opener against the Czech Republic, the Americans came back strong with a sprited effort against an Italian team that looked fantastic in its opening match. The Americans were able to frustrate the Italian side by working loading up the midfield and playing very aggressively, constantly fouling the Italians.

[Blogs.timesunion.com] Dennis Yusko Albany NY World Cup 2006 soccer blog -- World Cup ...: On Monday, it was Spanish referee Luis Medina Cantalejo under the microscope after he incredibly ejected an Italian defender for what was at best a yellow card, and then awarded 10-man Italy a dubious penalty with five seconds left in extra time. There is much to admire about Onyewu's athletic play, but he has a problem that could undermine the American efforts against Ghana: he is a relentlessly physical, foul-prone player.
[This is Epth Nation] Biiiiiig Post Re:Fricking Soccer: Short of possibly abortion or The Jews, there isn't a subject more divisive in this world than soccer, the world's favorite sport. I'm not going to speculate about the reasons for its popularity right now, because like most Americans this is my first time thinking about soccer, and that line of questioning seems like it's about 3 levels above where I'm comfortable.
